Shadowing
What exactly is shadowing?
Shadowing a doctor means observing their work throughout the day and following them to learn about the medical field and the daily responsibilities of a physician. Through MedPathNE, a form is filled out, allowing a student to choose when it would be most desirable for them to shadow. The student will then go to their assigned practice and spend the day shadowing a physician, learning about the daily activities of a doctor.
Why is shadowing important?
Shadowing a doctor isn’t only important because you get first-hand experience, but it also provides students with an increased desire to attend medical school in the future. Students learn more about medicine in general and can also enhance their resumes by listing their shadowing experiences. Based on the experience of the shadow, they can more deeply construct their future choices to cater towards a medical career.
